Parking at Schiphol: where do you start?
Schiphol is the largest airport in the Netherlands and lies in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, south-west of Amsterdam. If you drive to Schiphol and are away for a few days or weeks, your car has to stay somewhere. Besides the airport's own car parks, there are parking providers in the surrounding area, for example in Hoofddorp, Rozenburg and Schiphol-Rijk. Below you can read how the types of parking differ and what to look at when choosing.
Valet or shuttle: two ways to park
At Schiphol you will mainly come across two options. With valet parking you drive to the terminal yourself and hand over your car and key to a member of staff there. They park the car and bring it back to an agreed spot after your trip. You lose very little time on departure and arrival, but you do hand over your key.
With shuttle parking you drive to a car park nearby yourself. You leave the car there and a shuttle bus takes you to the departure hall. After your trip the shuttle picks you up again. Allow some extra time for the ride and any waiting time with this option. The transfer time a provider states is shown with each offer in the list.
The total price for your trip
A low price per day does not say everything: providers build their rates differently, for example with a higher amount for the first days and a lower amount per extra day. So look at the total price for your whole period. Enter your drop-off and pick-up time in the search form to see the price for exactly your days. Before you book, you see the total price and the provider's conditions, such as cancellation and arrival instructions.
What to look for when choosing
Price matters, but it is not the only thing. Also look at:
- the transfer time to the terminal and how often the shuttle runs;
- whether you have to hand over your key or keep it yourself;
- whether the car is parked indoors or outdoors;
- the provider's cancellation terms;
- extras such as a charging point or a car wash, if you need them.
Plan ahead in busy periods
During the school holidays and around public holidays it is busy around Schiphol. Providers have a limited number of spaces and rates can be higher in busy periods. If you already know your travel dates, it is better to look well in advance. Also check carefully which address you need to go to and what to do if your flight is delayed.
